Homelessness 101

 

Some Facts

 

- According to HUD's 2014 Point-In-Time Count, in Oregon approximately 12,164 Oregonians had no place to call home
- 4,408 of these individuals were in family households
- Nationally - According to HUD's January 2014 Point-In-Time Count, 578,424 individuals experienced homelessness. 63% were individuals, 37% were in family households
- National rate of people experiencing homelessness was 18.3 people per 10,000 people. The rate in Oregon is 31 people per 10,000 people (National Alliance to End Homelessness)
- People who ultimately become homeless have strained financial resources and are challenged by the cost of housing (National Alliance to End Homelessness)
- At Risk Populations: Those who are in poverty; unemployed; experiencing severe housing cost burden; are living doubled-up (National Alliance to End Homelessness)
